Who we are &
what we do
When you give to The PIER Foundation, you are opening doors of opportunity for adults with disabilities. Your donation provides jobs and job skill training which gives them a sense of purpose, fulfillment,
dignity and respect.
Your partnership changes lives.
The PIER foundation was actually birthed in Hutch & Cindy Matteson’s hearts in May of 1990 when their first born son, Joshua Caleb, was welcomed into the world. Josh was born with down syndrome, a genetic condition in which a person has 47 chromosomes instead of the usual 46. As Josh approached the age of 22, the mandatory age for getting out of the school system, they tried hard to find him a job that allowed him to have greater independence, to grow into his full potential and to enjoy the best quality of life possible. The reality of his needs took them on a journey that led to the establishment of The PIER Foundation, a 501c(3) non profit. Today, not only is Josh benefiting from this vision but so are many other adults with disabilities and their families!
